White Stork (Ciconia ciconia)

Description: A large bird with long neck and long legs, the white stork is a little bigger than the black stork; all of its plumage is white, save for the black quills. The beak and legs are orange-red. Its length is 100-115 cm, and with the wingspan of 155-200 cm an adult species may weigh up to4 kg.

Habitat: A common bird, nesting in settlements, and feeding in the open landscapes – vast and damp meadows, swamps, wastelands and fields.

Black Stork (Ciconia nigra)

Description: A large long-legged and long-necked bird, the black stork in its physique is a complete copy of the wide-known white stork. The greater part of plumage is black with violet and green sheen. The down side of the body is white. The bird is 90-100 long.

Habitat: The bird chooses to nest when a combination of tall-stemmed woods and vast open river valleys, with meadows, swamps and shallows, is available. Being secretive and cautious, the bird settles in remote woods. It is one of the rarest bird species in the country and the world, registered in both the International and Russian Red Books.
